Takeo, the Transportation Hub
Takeo is a city rich in nature, blessed with mountains and rivers, and also a major city in western Saga Prefecture with a robust transportation network that includes the JR Sasebo Line and interchanges on the Nagasaki Expressway. The city of Takeo has long prospered as a transportation hub. During the Edo Period (1603-1867), advanced learning, science, and technology from the West was brought in via the Nagasaki Kaido road, which had a great influence on the modernization of Japan. At the hot springs of Takeo, which flourished as a post town where samurai would rest their feet, Takeo Onsen New Building & Tower Gate were built during the Taisho Era (1912-1926), and remain to this day as a well-loved symbol of Takeo. Take a leisurely stroll down the same roads that German physician Philipp Franz von Siebold and numerous other great men walked down, and have a relaxing soak in the hot spring baths.
